I had never done a turkey trot on thanksgiving before, but this was the year. We were in Ft Collins this year and I had heard they had the best race in northern Colorado. A pretty flat out and back course with all the elevation gain on the out (about 200 ft) and an easy downhill back.
The weather was crisp (20°F) and clear making it for a perfect running day. We started with a kids fun run where the girls did an easy ~1/3ish of a mile around the block. Treating that as the warm up, we then lined up for the race where the start was muffled a little due to the generator dying on the announcer’s van. Four minutes later we were out.
The run out was easy going at 6:50ish pace trying to keep something fast but not pedal to the metal. The hill was also more legitamate than I expected. The run back though was great with an easy downhill and I pulled another 10s out to handily beat my 28:00 time goal.
I forgot how much fun shorter races were, and hope to get back to them in the future… though I almost needed to go for a swim to get in a legit workout that day.
